Episode Notes

Antoine and Brian share a Coffee Talk about Pride Durham

Brian and Antoine Elhasham talk about Pride Durham and how it started from humble roots in 2006 as a one day, extremely abbreviated, event blossoming into a 10-day extravaganza for 2013.  This year’s theme is “50 Shades of Pride” with 50 different events happening simultaneously from May 31st to June 9th.  From “mild to wild” there is a little something for everyone with guest speakers, dances, all ages’ events, the family picnic on Saturday, June 8th, and the Pride Parade happening in Oshawa culminating in the Queerstock music festival at Memorial Park on Sunday, June 9th.  Antoine further highlights the importance of Pride Durham, the philosophies behind the organization and how all-encompassing this week-long event is for people of all walks of life.

Brian asks Antoine about World Pride and his capacity as Chair of Marketing and Communications of World Pride, 2014.  Cities must bid to host this huge event which takes place every second year.  Toronto is the first city in North America to be honoured as host.  The event is expected to attract 2.5 million people from all over the world.  And, since Toronto has one of the top 3 largest Prides in the World, let’s get this party started early in Durham Region with Pride Durham 2013, “50 Shades of Pride”.  Come on out, celebrate pride; celebrate being human!
