In this very special episode Brian gets to chat with the founder of Essential Communications, Ian Kennedy.  Find out how the man behind it all started Essential Communications and brought the Ontario Self-Employment Benefit Program (“OSEB”) to the Durham Region as well as the Local Biz Expo.  Ian shares some insights regarding the almost 1,100 clients that have gone through Essential Communications’ OSEB Program, of which 75%, better than the national average, are still successfully operating their businesses 5 years later bringing a whole new meaning to “Shop Local”.  The big difference is the ongoing support provided by Essential Communications through continuous learning, networking and workshops.  Through the 42-week comprehensive OSEB program participants attend a 7-week classroom portion, write a full business plan for their business, are paired with a business coach and earn a living stipend while they build their new businesses.  The OSEB program is funded by the Provincial Government through the Ministry of Training and Colleges and constitutes a mini-Masters of Business Administration (“MBA”) program.  Ian highlights the key criteria for those who are interested in applying to the OSEB program through Essential Communications and encourages those interested to come out to one of the next orientation sessions on April 3 or on April 26, 2013 for the start of next program rotation in June, 2013.
