We all know
that charity begins at home and the Pickering community has always been quick
and generous to help support their less fortunate neighbours but, seldom do we
consider the mechanizations behind the procedure. The “How To” fi you will. Imagine the back-breaking task of sorting
thousands of pounds of donated food into food hampers at St. Paul's on-the-Hill
Community Food Bank. Now imagine
doing that on a high, wide, uneven table – Ouch!
and Karrie Allan of Your Independent Grocer, Pickering and Chris Clarke of
Remodel Construction Co. Together, these
three listened closely to the wish list of Marg Jocz and the volunteers at the St.
Paul's on-the-Hill Community Food Bank.
They found the materials, designed and presented two prototype tables on
February 23, 2016. Specially designed,
these tables are low to prevent reaching up and over into food hampers and they
have adjustable legs (up to 4 inches) to ensure tables are level at all times. The straight-leg design allows for extra
storage underneath. Each table will
support up to 1000 pounds of food and are narrow enough to allow for
reconfiguration as needed.
like to thank Your Independent Grocer, Pickering, Remodel Construction Co. of
Ajax, Chris Clarke and Tyler and Karrie Allan for demonstrating what it means
to be good corporate citizens. It is
unfortunate that the need for a food bank exists within our community however,
with generous people like these three, the battle against hunger has been made
a little less strenuous.
would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the residents of Pickering,
for your continued donations to St. Paul's on-the-Hill Community Food Bank. As we shake off the cold weather and our
thoughts turn to warmer pastimes, picnics and BBQs please keep the food bank in
mind. Every donation, no matter how
small, helps immensely. Donations may be
dropped off seven days a week at Your Independent Grocer, Pickering. For an updated listing of the items for which
there is an immediate need at St. Paul's on-the-Hill Community Food Bank
