McHappy Day 2012 - AjaxPickering.ca is Proud to be a part of McHappy Day 2012
May 2, 2012 was McHappy Day at McDonald’s Restaurants across Canada. With the purchase of a Big Mac, Happy Meal and or any McCafe hot beverage; $1 was donated to Ronald McDonald Charities and, in the Ajax locations, the Grandview Children’s Foundation. AjaxPickering.ca’s own Editor, Jeanette Evely, was pleased to participate in such a worthy event.
When asked about the day, Evely had this to say, “I’ve never worked food service in my life. While I was thoroughly honoured to be a part of McHappy Day as a Celebrity Server; I was shaking in my boots! When I was offered the chance to work outside, I jumped at it! It was such beautiful weather and I was asked to stand in the sun with a fist full of brightly coloured balloons and pins to fundraise for this worthy cause – how could I possibly have said no?”
Ronald McDonald House Charities (“RMHC”) Canada focuses its efforts on providing home-like lodging and hospital family rooms for families whose child has been diagnosed with a serious injury or illness.
When travel is necessary to get the medical treatment required, these facilities provide support as well as a quiet escape and a feeling of normalcy for families in need.
There are currently 13 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada assisting 10,000 families however, with the help of events like McHappy Day, RMHC has plans to support 465 families a night by 2014. This is double the number of families housed in 2010. The four McDonald’s Restaurant locations in Ajax specifically targeted raising money and awareness for The New Toronto Ronald McDonald House and the Grandview Children’s Foundation, Durham Region’s only outpatient rehabilitation facility supporting children with special needs.
Joining Evely as Celebrity Servers at the Ajax location at Taunton Road and Westney Road were a number of the Town of Ajax Firefighters and Fire Prevention Team members.
“Spirits were running high and there was a lot of friendly competition to see who could raise the most in donations,” remembers Evely, “I think the customers were having as much fun as we, the volunteers, were. I can’t wait for next year – Happy McHappy Day everyone!”
