Pickering Exchanges Parking Fines for Holiday Cheer
Pickering, ON, December 4, 2012 –The City of Pickering’s ‘Toys 4 Tickets and Food 4 Fines’ program has become an unofficial seasonal tradition at City Hall. This year, most parking tickets issued between December 1st to the 14th may be paid via a donation of food or toys, in lieu of the set fine.
All donations will go towards the Durham Regional Police Service Food & Toy Drive. Since the City’s program started in 2009, approximately $4800 in toys and foods have been collected.
All toy donations must be new and unwrapped, and all food donations must be non-perishable. The value of the toys or food must be equal to or greater than the fine on the ticket. As such, receipts are required for all donations. Please note that tickets issued for illegal parking in accessible spaces are not eligible for the program.
Toy or food donations will be accepted on two days only - December 13 and 14, 2012, between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, on the second floor of the Pickering Civic Complex, located at One The Esplanade.
