Discover Bead Rock in Pickering Village
Beth Bianchi is an inspiration. She has done what we would all like to do. She took her decade old hobby and made it her career. What is so remarkable is that her passion for beading has not lessened any though she has made it her full-time job. As a hobbyist, Beth found beading to be quite expensive thereby limiting participation to only those who could afford it. This meant that most children, teens and seniors could not take part. “[Beading is a] positive hobby. You see results very quickly and that makes you feel good,” Beth explains why the benefits of beading would suit the demographic most often left out due to high cost, “It’s a great hobby and very therapeutic”. She knew that this was unfair. She dreamed of opening up the opportunity for everyone to enjoy this art form.
Just over three years ago, Beadrock opened its doors as a supply store offering classes in a limited number of beading techniques. Originally located in Ajax on Station Street, Beadrock is now a full retail store and beading boutique in the whimsical Pickering Village Courtyard. Beth has achieved her goal, “I’m in a league of my own. The prices here are unbelievable to what I was paying when I first started beading,” Beth indicates the stock of children’s dollar beads, quality beads like quarts and moonstone, and the semi-precious garnet, prescreened Baltic amber and Swarovski crystal beads displayed. “Beadrock is a gathering place where you can make friends and be able to get [the supplies] you need or submit a special order for something unique. It is not long before you know everyone.”
The hobby of Beading is not limited to age or sex. There is something for everyone at Beadrock. It is a great place to hold birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, evening parties or Girls’ and Boys’ night out gatherings. Should custom beading not be your cup of tea, clients have been known to try their hand at making fishing lures as well as peyote and wirework. Beth has numerous books and magazines on the ready for those looking for inspiration. Full day workshops are hosted by in-house instructors and special guests, and include lunch.
If beading is a hobby you would like to try your hand at but you are unsure how to get started, be sure to attend one of Beadrock’s many classes. Open Stimulus Fridays are held each week. For a very reasonable price, participants receive a beading kit and instructions as well as expert help. Everyone is welcome and instruction is available for beginner, intermediate and advance designers of all ages. With five certified instructors, there is always something new to learn including some rare techniques like chainmaille, organic potato bead making, wire wrapping, and Japanese clay in silver, copper, bronze and glass.
Looking for something unique? Beadrock offers quality custom jewelry for purchase. Please come in and browse the numerous displays of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, belts, loom work, peyote, chainmaille and clay art pieces for purchase.
